Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord

The word Epiphany, meaning 'manifestation' or 'showing forth,' is a call to conversion. This Sunday, the Church celebrates the ongoing manifestation of our Lord to the whole world. Jesus was first revealed to the shepherds of Bethlehem. Now, he is being revealed to us, just as He was to the Magi who journeyed from the East to adore Him. These Magi, or three kings, symbolize the Gentiles who began to follow Jesus, and they also symbolize our ongoing search for Jesus.
Epiphany celebrates God's manifestations in our lives. We are Christians under construction. Our life experiences have shaped how we see God and others. Jesus comes into our lives to show us what being human means. He comes to show us what it means to be loved by God. All of us together must see the saving power of God.
The reality is that God saves us from ourselves. God's plan for our lives is always better than our plans. Do we stand in the way of God’s plan at work in our lives?
As we enter into this new year, let us reflect on how Jesus’ presence in our lives transformed us. Jesus is the source of our strength and our peace. Jesus brings hope to a world that continues to seek meaning. Like the Magi who followed the star and found Christ, may we also find the Lord who continues to seek us.
