From the Office of Worship, Diocese of Providence Beginning April 21, 2025: On this day and every day during the novendiales (nine days of official mourning for a pope), church bells may ring (88 times for every year of the late Pope's life, or even 12 times for every year of his pontificate). The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence will ring its bells 88 times daily during the novendiales beginning April 21, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. Many of our local churches will join in this custom. Please join us in praying for the repose of the soul of the late Pontiff when you hear the toll.
